Nourish Your Body Each Season!

One of the easiest ways to nourish our bodies is to eat seasonally. Every month we have the opportunity to incorporate fresh produce into our diet when it’s naturally ready for harvest.
Produce that is purchased in season has higher nutritional value and it tastes better! You also save money when you buy fruits and vegetables in season.
Each season your body has different nutritional needs. In the summertime, tomatoes are in season which offer a great source of lycopene. When consumed, lycopene helps protect your skin from sun damage. In the winter, citrus fruits are in season. Consuming citrus during the colder months is a great way to receive Vitamin C to ward off colds and flu bugs.
The beautiful figs pictured above were picked from a friend’s fig tree. Figs are in season twice a year - a smaller harvest in early summer and a larger harvest in late summer. When purchasing figs at the supermarket, it’s always best to squeeze the fig gently to feel how ripe the fig is. If it’s soft and squishy - it’s perfect! If the fig feels hard, they might have been picked too early and will taste less sweet.
