The Power of Movement

Each day I prioritize some type of movement into my day. Some days it’s a group fitness class and other days it’s a long walk. Regardless of the type of exercise I engage in, it’s a non-negotiable for me to move my body every day. It’s a daily self care practice that allows me to improve my physical and mental health.
Physical activity has a wide variety of health benefits. It reduces your risk of chronic disease, helps manage weight, improves sleep quality, reduces stress and boosts your self esteem!

In the fall months, hiking is one of my favorite activities! This is a great way to spend time in nature, disconnect from technology and incorporate more adventure into your life. I love to go hiking with friends - it gives us the opportunity to get fresh air, exercise and catch up. We’ll often go on trails in a different town and then enjoy lunch and a cold drink after the hike. You will sleep like a baby after being out in the woods for hours!
If I’m working out at home, I‘ll use an app called FitBod. It has different strength training workouts that allow you to pick which muscle groups you want to focus on. Variety in my workouts is key. I enjoy a mix of yoga, strength training, spinning and boxing. Below are a few of my favorite fitness studios in Arlington and Alexandria:
